What do you know about Ireland?

Oral comprehension:

Watch the video and take notes.

Write a recap of the video!

Correction:

This video was quite difficult to understand for some students.

Ireland is composed of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (United Kingdom).

Ireland is also nicknamed the Emerald Isle because it is so green and beautiful: it is always raining in Ireland.

In the XIXth century, there was a famine, many people died and many others emigrated to America. Today, their descendants still celebrate St Patrick's Day on March 17th with the irish people.

Irish people love music and poetry. They often play an instrument ( violin, pipes, bodhran). Leprechauns are traditional mythical figures dressed in green, they are very mischievous.

Irish people sometimes play traditional Irish sports: Gaelic Football or Hurling.

Adverbes de fréquence:

Often souvent

Reading

Day 1: Land in Dublin

Michael and I landed late in Dublin and stayed in a lovely AirBnb.

Day 2: Dublin

We started the day by exploring around Dublin: walked St. Stephen's Green, took the Trinity College Tour, and did the Guinness brewery tour.

Day 3: Dublin

We walked to a town, stayed in the pubs, and even saw some Celtic music and dancing. We also argued over how to pronounce Celtic. Is it [kel-tic] or [sell-tic]?

Day 4: Kilkenny, Rock of Cashel, Blarney, and Kinsale

We decided to rent a car and we drove south and headed to Kilkenny, a small historic town famous for its castle and the “medieval mile”. This long stretch of road is full of history including ancient churches, historic buildings, and of course the stunning castle.

Day 5: Killarney, Kissane Sheep Dogs, Dingle, Tralee

We woke up bright and early and headed to the famous Ross Castle in Killarney. This is a tower house on the edge of the lake with horses and carts that can take you around the grounds. You can even hop in a boat to see more around the lake. Next we drove through the lovely Killarney National park.

My favourite part of the trip was the Kissane sheep dog farm. It was incredible to watch the dogs work.

Day 6: Cliffs of Moher, and Burren National Park

On our last full day in Ireland we ventured to the famous Cliffs of Moher. We walked around the cliffs for a few hours. They were so majestic and grand. You can easily see why Harry Potter was filmed here.

After the cliffs we headed to the nearby Burren National Park. We did a short hike here

Day 7: Galway and Back Home

On our last day we headed to Galway as everyone told me to go here.

Saint Patrick's Day

What did you do on Saint Patrick's Day?

On Saint Patrick's Day, in the morning, I dressed up as a leprechaun for the costume contest (concours). With my classmates, we decorated the classroom with ballons and Irish flags.

At the canteen, we ate the traditional Shepherd's Pie and chocolate muffin and there was a raffle/tombola.

In the afternoon, we received prizes for the Big Quiz, the best costume and the best classroom decoration.

Finally, we ate a delicious snack!
