La forme possessive


En anglais, on utilise 's pour décrire la possession ou l'appartenance.


Construction :

possesseur 's possédé


Exemples :

Tony's car is red


Lorsqu'il y a deux possesseur pour le même possédé :

Iris and Nolan's English teacher is very strict.

Dans cette phrase, Iris et Nolan ont le même professeur d'anglais.


Lorsque les deux possesseurs possèdent deux possédés différents :

Louis's and Anaïs's parents are coming tonight.

Dans cette phrase, on indique bien que Louis et Anaïs ont des parents différents.


Attention, lorsque le possesseur est au pluriel avec un « s », on ne met que '

The pupils' school is very big.

Evidemment, lorsque le pluriel est irrégulier, on met 's.

man – men

woman – women

tooth – teeth

mouse – mice (souris)


The children's playground is very noisy (bruyant-e).

In this video, Billy's mother calls from work. Billy is cooking in the kitchen, he answers the phone. His mother wants to know how he is. She asks him where everyone is. Billy answers his father is in the basement, Suzy is in the living room, his grandparents are in the yard and he is in the kitchen.
She asks if everyone is fine, Billy answers "yes". Then they say goodbye and hang up.
